Not what the doctor ordered
In the past few months, experts on prescription drugs warned us about heart attacks and strokes from arthritis drugs, muscle damage and kidney failure from statin drugs, and suicide and homicidal tendencies from psychotropic drugs. Catherine DeAngelis, editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, commented on the Food and Drug Administration's program to identify these serious complications. Comparing it to a dangerous structure, she said, ''This building is on very shaky ground. Would I condemn it? No, but I would tell people, you go in at your own risk." We're also told not to import drugs from Canada because they cannot be trusted.
