Indian police in Patna have recovered 1,600 bottles of fake cough syrup from a parcel van in cross country transit.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Patna have issued charges against four people in relationship to the fake drug confiscation from the Magadh Express parcel van. The fake medications were transported via train to Patna Junction on Saturday, January 22nd, and transferred to the parcel van where they were seized by police, reported the Times of India.
Among those charged were the consignee, the train parcel booking clerk in New Delhi and the receiving booking clerk at Patna Junction. No arrests have been made. The investigation is on-going.
Fake cough syrup was responsible for the deaths of 116 people in Panama in 2006, when it was formulated with diethylene glycol, the poisonous chemical commonly found in antifreeze and brake fluid instead of glycerin.
