California Man Admits to Selling Counterfeit Drugs

A California resident pleaded guilty on March 17th, 2011 to selling counterfeit drugs, illegally imported from China, on craigslist.com.

United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Troy James Taylor, 39, of Elk Grove, CA, pleaded guilty to selling fake drugs from May 2007 through March of 2008 after being caught receiving a package of more than 1,000 counterfeit prescription erectile dysfunction medications from Shanghai. The tables were in authentic-looking blister packs marked with brand name medications in May 2007.

Additional shipments of fake drugs were intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the San Francisco Airmail Facility or at local post offices on nine occasions. The FDA lab confirmed that the seized pills were counterfeit.

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced in June with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
