Fake Contraceptive Medicine Impacts Uganda
The Ugandan National Drug Authority issued a public alert on April 3rd, 2011, that counterfeit contraceptives are on sale in country.
Frederick Ssekyana, the Drug Authority’s public relations officer, warned consumers to look carefully at the security features on the pills, reports the Ugandan news source, New Vision.
The back side of the pill package has a white rectangular scratch band that can be removed with a coin to reveal the words “original” and the manufacturer’s logo if they pills are authentic.
“The public is, therefore, urged to observe the above two features and identify the genuine pills from the fake ones,” he added.
“Please be vigilant of your health and with medicines, because safe drugs save lives,” Ssekyana said.
