Ukraine Makes Medicine Counterfeiting Criminal
Ukraine has adopted laws that criminalize the manufacture and sale of counterfeit medication.
With a passing vote of 72% of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian parliament, the criminal code was amended with an article called “Medicine Counterfeiting or the Traffkcing of Counterfeit Medicine, reported the Kyiv Post.
The law penalizes the manufacturers as well as resellers and distributors of counterfeit medications with fines and imprisonment.
The law emphasizes the endangerment of life and health, with greater fines and scaleable sentences for larger distributions and greater endangerments. Actions that cause death, or serious illness, can be sentenced to ten years imprisonment.
