Xuanhao Chan To Speak On Panel at Interchange

Xuanhao Chan, lead technical officer for the International Pharmaceutical Federation, will join panelists on “The role of Patients and Healthcare Professionals” at the Partnership for Safe Medicine Interchange on October 27, 2011.

Chan is a registered pharmacist from Singapore and for the past 6 years, he has been working for the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in various positions. More recently, in 2008 he established the first branch office for FIP in Geneva managing the Federation’s global public health partnerships and serves as the FIP advocacy focal point with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international health-related agencies in Geneva, Switzerland.

Chan is a registered pharmacist from Singapore and for the past 6 years, he has been working for the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in various positions. More recently, in 2008 he established the first branch office for FIP in Geneva managing the Federation’s global public health partnerships and serves as the FIP advocacy focal point with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international health-related agencies in Geneva, Switzerland.

Being the main technical officer for FIP, he leads ongoing analysis of current affairs in pharmaceutical policies and global trends so as to prepare internal and external policy papers and to represent the Federation at key events such as the World Health Assembly. He also represents FIP in providing expert opinion on pharmacy and pharmaceutical policy issues in the WHO Expert Committee on specifications of pharmaceuticals.

In the area of combating counterfeit medicines, he has led communications activities for the International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Task-force (IMPACT), since 2006, on behalf of FIP and the World Health Professions Alliance. In 2010, he worked closely with the WHO Secretariat to organize the first WHO Open Forum on IMPACT and counterfeit medical products for Member States.

Since 2009, he has also been managing the World Health Professions Alliance global campaign on combating counterfeit medicines. A key objective of this campaign is to build capacity for health professionals and their national associations to play a stronger role in combating counterfeit medicines from a public health perspective. WHPA also aims to facilitate more dialogue among key stakeholders and health professional leaders with a strong focus on ensuring quality, safety and better use of medicines.
