Third Bout of Counterfeit HIV Medication Found
More fake HIV medication has been found, this time in Kenya.
The World Health Organization’s Prequalification of Medicines Program (PQM) first discovered fake versions of Zidolam-N, a HIV therapy, in September in Kenya, reports Securing Pharma.
The counterfeit medications are of poor quality with visible molding, discoloration and friability. Kenya’s Pharmacy and Poisons Board has confiscated all of the counterfeit Zidolam-N products identified to date.
Batch number E110766 is a known counterfeit. Batches E110467, A9351, A9357 and A9366 are currently under investigation said PQM. The authentic batches were not found in Kenya or in shipments to other countries.
PQM warns that HIV patients should continue taking their medication unless they have received some identified with these batch numbers.
