German Pharmacy Board: Country’s Drug Supply Chain is Safe
Germany’s pharmacy association recently affirmed its belief in the security of the country’s pharmaceutical supply chain.
The ABDA said that Germans should be confident when taking their medication despite some reports of counterfeit drugs in the country, according to SecuringPharma.com.
“The safest way to get drugs in Germany is any one of the 21,500 community pharmacies,” said an ABDA spokesman.
The spokesman for the pharmaceutical board also noted that there have been only 40 cases of counterfeit drugs emerging in Germany since 1996, according to Germany’s Federal Criminal Police.
“The high security of the supply chain in Germany – from the producer via the wholesaler to the pharmacy – has been the guarantee for this high degree of consumer protection,” he said.
The spokesman also said that the ABDA has worked hard to help investigations of alleged improprieties in the legitimate drug supply chain.
“If there is any suspicion about fraud or violation of safety standards in any of the community pharmacies, ABDA and its member organizations are keen to help investigating such cases and preventing such behavior in the future,” he said, reports the news source.
