John Gray, CEO and President of the Healthcare Distribution Management Association, spoke on the critical issues of patient safety and access to safe and efficient medicines.

John Gray, CEO and President of the Healthcare Distribution Management Association, spoke on the critical issues of patient safety and access to safe and efficient medicines.

“We not only worry about counterfeits, we worry about the broader spectrum of safety in the supply chain,” said Gray at the 2010 Interchange.

“We are the organization in Washington advocating for standards,” said Gray, adding that HDMA promotes safety standards, the development track-and-trace methods, and seeks out new technologies to make the medicine supply chain more secure.

Continued Gray, “We also worry about illegal importation, rogue internet pharmacies, diversion of product and cargo theft.”

HDMA has been working with partners to develop cargo security measurers; to work with government agencies to monitor for suspicious order patterns; and to develop pedigree standards to prevent counterfeit medicines.
