3 Million Doses of Counterfeit Medication Confiscated in San Francisco
San Francisco Customs report that over 3 million doses of fake drugs were seized in 2010 at San Francisco International Airport.
Chief Customs Officer Ed Low at the International Mailing Facility at San Francisco International Airport finds counterfeit drugs coming through the mail every day, including penicillin, valium, and erectile dysfunction medication, reports CBS News.
For 2010, SFO seized over 3 million units of counterfeit medication, reports Officer Low, who suspects that people are ordering these fake drugs online from foreign businesses.
The World Health Organization has estimated that approximately 10% of all medication worldwide is counterfeit, and more than 50% of counterfeit drugs don’t include proper ingredients which could cause serious side effects, reports CBS News.
