UK Man Gets Nine Months for Sales of Fake Drugs
A 61-year-old man from Birmingham, England, was recently sentenced to serve nine months in prison for selling unlicensed erectile dysfunction medication.
Last year an investigation by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) found that John Henry Atkinson was illegally selling potentially fake drugs.
Atkinson was found to be in possession of two boxes that had an estimated 7,000 Kamagra tablets, a box containing 2,000 Savitra tablets, a carrier bag of 61 Apcalis oral jelly sachets and 10 boxes containing Kamagra oral jelly sachets.
The value of the seized drugs was estimated at £53,000.
“This is a serious example of a man who has no regard for others,” MHRA Head of Operations Danny Lee-Frost said at the time of the arrest. “These medicines Atkinson was promoting are unlicensed medicines. As a result you simply don’t know what you may be taking and that can pose a great danger to your health.”
Erectile dysfunction medication is one of the most common counterfeit drugs.
