Drugs with false labels are nothing less than counterfeits
Consumers buy products across the counter on the basis of the
reputation they have created for themselves either by being
consistently efficacious and generating an element of trust, or by
clever advertising which makes the customer feel that the product is a
“must” in his daily life.
But the fact is that not all the products being sold by a brand name are produced by the company that markets it.

Aegate steals a march in war against counterfeit drugs
Aegate, the drug
authentication business, will move into Ireland in January,
strengthening its position ahead of expected EU legislation to fight
the growing threat of counterfeit drugs.
The company – which uses barcodes and a bank of computers at a
secure facility in Britain to check for fake medicines – already has
operations in Belgium, Greece and Italy and is looking to roll out its
system in another three to four markets this year, said managing
director, Gary Noon.

Uganda Health News: NDA to fight counterfeit drugs
The chairperson of the National Drug Authority (NDA) Dr. Frank Mwesigye
has said that the institution will continue to fight counterfeit drugs
on the market to ensure safety and to avoid exploitation of the people.
The NDA is a government body charged with regulating drug use and manufacture in the country.

FDA Sending Inspectors to Other Nations
BEIJING — Under fire
for not having the resources to better protect consumers at home, the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration is deploying staff members abroad to
work directly with importers and foreign regulatory agencies to guard
against contaminated animal feed, counterfeit drugs, toys made with
lead paint and dairy products containing melamine.

Rogue Internet Pharmacies on the Run: LegitScript Shuts Down 500 No-Prescription-Required Online Pharmacies
Websites fueling prescription drug abuse, selling non-FDA approved
drugs taken offline
LegitScript, an online pharmacy certification program, announced today
that it has succeeded in getting nearly 500 “rogue” Internet pharmacy
websites shut down.
The sites had been selling prescription drugs or steroids
without requiring a prescription, a practice that is illegal and
considered unsafe by medical authorities. In most cases, the drugs were
sold from outside of the United States.
