Proposed Legislation Addresses Growing Epidemic of Counterfeit Medicines
Congressmen Mike Rogers
(R-MI) and Gene Green (D-TX) sponsored a congressional briefing today to
discuss the growing threat of counterfeit prescription medications and
promote their new legislation designed to combat the proliferation of fake
medicines. Also present were representatives from the pharmaceutical
industry and the national association representing state boards of pharmacy
who discussed the problems and threats of counterfeit prescription drugs.
"I'm concerned about fake prescription medications making their way
into people's medicine cabinets, and I urge Congress to work with
Representative Green and me to ensure the safety of America's life-saving
drugs," said Rogers, a former FBI agent who serves on the House Energy and
Commerce Subcommittee on Health. "Americans deserve peace of mind when they
fill their prescriptions."
